We have a unique opportunity at the Street Machine Nationals events to get up close with some of the coolest cars on the scene. While out these events, our editors will choose a few standout vehicles that we know our readers will love, and choose them for our Editor’s Pick award winners.
At the recent St. Paul Street Machine Nationals show, this 1960 Morris Minor 1000 stood out to us. Even though there were so many great cars to choose from, it was a unanimous choice to give the award to this unique build.
Here is a little background on the car and the people who get to enjoy it!
GH: What makes you a Gearhead? How did you get into cars?
In 1960 I had my 1956 Buick model car appear in Rod & Custom – Rods in Miniature. I have never deviated my interests from Hot Rods and Drag racing
GH: What was your first car?
1951 Chevrolet. My next national publications showcased my 1948 Crosley Prostreet. My 1959 Rambler 2-dr wagon has won First place at several events. I enjoy building “ stupid stuff” .
GH: When did you purchase this car? What kind of shape was it in?
Purchased Morris 2-years ago in San Diago. Body was solid with a 5-years old paint job. Former owner purchased at a Charity Auction.
GH: Why did you buy this particular car?
I don’t do mainstream cars.
GH: Did you build it or did a shop? How long did it take?
Built in my home garage, it was a 2 year build.
GH: What kind of trials and tribulations did you go through to get the car to its current state?
Engine required many attempts to get everything to fit in such a small space. Many said I could not do it.
GH: What outstanding features make this “YOUR” car and different from all the others of that make/model?
I wanted to create an Original look with a modern powerplant.
